U.S. President George W. Bush announced Wednesday that the White House will host the summit, where leaders are expected to discuss the causes of the crisis as well as potential reforms to the regulations and institutions that govern the global financial system.

The Bank of England deputy governor Charles Bean said that “this is no longer just a story about falling portfolio values. This is a once in a lifetime crises, and possibly the largest financial crises of it’s kind in human history”
